Mentoring Programmes
The importance of having a good mentor, in developing your scientific career, is highlighted as one of the keystones to success.
The Swiss National Science Foundation has created a number of measures to support the recruitment and retention of women scientists in Switzerland, including mentoring aspects of these programs. Currently the best link in Switzerland for mentoring contacts is the SVIN, Swiss Association of Women Engineers, website.
An excellent mentoring programme for Women Scientists and Engineers is linked to the UK Women's Engineering Society. It is very useful to look at the Mentoringset website because it explains the successful rationale behind networking and gives some excellent Case Studies of successful mentoring relationships between women scientists and engineers.
AcademiaNet is a German website for women academics and scientists. It might be possible to find a mentor through this resource.
Femdat.ch is a network (mostly in german), that wants to improve women's career opportunities. It provides information for women in academia and business and promotes women in science, business and society.
Career Advice
A Swiss portal for research and information in science is the Myscience website. It gives current information and news relating to all categories of science and engineering. Under individual fields you will find up-to-date adverts for current research positions. The website is in German, French and English.
A very useful resource for advice on PhD organization and completion is the ithinkwell website. This has been developed by Hugh Kearn and Maria Gardiner of the University of Flinders, Adelaide, Australia. The website has downloadable advice on strategies for completion.
The Conference Universitaire de Suisse Occidentale, CUSO, has a programme of careers advice, workshops, and events for people studying and working at Universities in the western part of Switzerland
The programmes aimed at fixing The Leaky Pipeline in Switzerland are also a helpful resource for existing Swiss provisions and activities.
